Jake Spangler

software engineer. I build AI agents, systems software, and products people actually use.

CS + Business @ Lehigh, class of '27.
Currently a capstone co-op at Cisco. Two summers at Northrop Grumman. Co-founded a travel startup.

01 where I've worked

Software Engineering Co-op (capstone)

Cisco · Remote · Jan 2026 to now

  • Building a Kubernetes-deployed observability system that automates compliance auditing. It consumes Tetragon eBPF runtime security events over gRPC and turns kernel telemetry into structured compliance evidence.
  • Configuring eBPF tracing policies for process execution, file access, network activity, and privilege escalation, then normalizing that telemetry in Go and mapping it to 25+ controls across NIST 800-53, CIS, and SOC 2.
  • Automating PDF audit reports in Python, with a dashboard for compliance reporting and security monitoring.

Embedded Software Engineer Intern

Northrop Grumman · San Diego · summers 2025 + 2026

  • Designed and automated Python requirement-verification tests against a real-time embedded C backend, running on physical lab hardware through a VM for closed-loop simulation. Raised VTC test coverage by 25%.
  • Read and patched C source to isolate the root causes of test failures, working with development engineers to fix defects and improve reliability.

02 things I've built

Jarvis · personal second-brain assistant

  • An agentic AI assistant built on LangGraph and FastAPI. It reasons over everything you tell it, brings up the right thing at the right time, spots follow-ups, and runs multi-step workflows behind explicit approval policies.
  • Multi-tier RAG memory in PostgreSQL / pgvector and Redis: semantic retrieval, memory consolidation, versioning, and async workflows across interactions, facts, habits, and tasks.
  • Containerized services on AWS with Terraform, instrumented end to end with OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and Grafana to watch agent runs, tool calls, retrieval, latency, and failures.
Three phone screens from Jarvis: Today with a reminder notification and items coming due, a conversation that files reminders and grocery items and asks which Priya was meant, and a grocery list.

Viewpoint robustness · graduate deep learning project

Why do vision models recognize an object from the front and miss it from above?

  • Benchmarking ResNet, ConvNeXt, and Vision Transformer architectures across three multi-view 3D datasets to find where recognition breaks by viewpoint.
  • Developing a graph neural network multi-view fusion approach that models camera viewpoints to recover those failures.
  • Cross-architecture and cross-dataset analysis plus ablations to separate architecture-specific weaknesses from shared ones.

TOP 2CSB startups

Prism · group travel startup

The group chat, the shared spreadsheet, and twelve airline tabs, all in one place.

  • Shipped a production-scale group travel platform: 120+ REST endpoints and a real-time, multi-user Rust backend on Cloudflare Workers and D1.
  • Reached 50+ users, using AI-assisted development workflows to get from idea to working MVP in six months.
  • Placed Top 2 among all startups in Lehigh's CSB program after weekly stakeholder pitches and travel-industry mentorship.

Mood → playlist

Describe a mood ("rainy sunday, but hopeful") and get a Spotify playlist built for it. Gemini does the vibe-reading.

Mise

Paste a recipe or an Instagram post and get back a grocery list. An LLM reasons through the ingredients so you don't have to.

Smash

A fighting game engine in the spirit of Super Smash Bros. Build custom sprites on top of it and play as any character you can draw. Built with TypeScript and PixiJS.
